A new and exciting 12-month fixed-term post has been created to support the Quality Assurance and Control Services provided by the Pharmacy Department at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The postholder will assist the Quality Assurance Manager in providing technical support and guidance on pharmaceutical science and Good Manufacturing Practice to technical teams working in local aseptic and radiopharmacy production units and to the wider clinical teams within the Trust.

This provides an excellent and rare opportunity for a motivated individual to strengthen their portfolio and gain invaluable experience and learn the skills required for a quality assurance role within technical services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual, with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. The postholder must have excellent problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas. Good knowledge of GxP standards and experience in pharmaceutical services is essential for the role.

This is a full-time post, working Monday to Friday. Flexible working patterns will be considered based on the needs of the service and the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

Working within the Quality Control team, the successful candidate will assist in a range of specialist quality assurance activities including management of the Pharmaceutical Quality System, error investigations, change implementation, validations and training.

In addition, the postholder will work within the Quality Control Laboratory undertaking a variety of chemical and microbiological analysis on a range of pharmaceutical products as well environmental monitoring of cleanroom facilities and clean air devices.

The candidate will be expected to both assist with and lead on individual and group projects and therefore must have excellent self-discipline and team leadership skills.

This role represents an excellent, but rare, opportunity for a suitable individual to develop their skills and gain experience within pharmaceutical sciences and quality assurance helping develop and drive the future of technical services within the NHS.

We are a large Acute Teaching Hospital of approximately 1300 beds. Our pharmacy department has an innovative approach to pharmaceutical care with a ward-based technician service and pharmacist led clinics. We have strong links with the Medical School at Warwick University and the department of Medicines Management at Keele University.

You will be based at University Hospital Coventry, a PFI hospital opened in 2006 which is situated just off the junction of the M6 and M69.

Laboratory Testing:

1.Support the QA Manager in maintaining appropriate Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards within the Quality Control Laboratory.

2.Carry out a range of chemical, physical and microbiological testing to assist in the analysis of starting materials and final products to evaluate compliance with specifications, and to perform such tasks as may be necessary, including: assay testing and sterility testing.

3.Assist with the preparation of reagents required for the range of QC tests.

4.Assist with visual and chemical identification of microbiological isolates.

5.Carry out testing, as required, to assist in the stability evaluation of a range of aseptically prepared products.
