Job summary

A number of exciting opportunities have become available to work within the Outpatient Musculoskeletal Service at UHCW. We have three different roles providing options to suit clinicians preferences:

1. Static Band 6 MSK Physiotherapist based at the UHCW hospital site. This role gives candidates the opportunity to treat both Primary and Secondary Care patients whilst remaining in a static location at UHCW

2. Rotational Band 6 MSK Physiotherapist. This role involves a caseload of both Primary and Secondary Care patients as well, but this post allows staff to rotate between 3 different locations UHCW Hospital Site, the City of Coventry Health Centre and Rugby St. Cross Hospital. Each rotation is 9 months long and will give staff the chance to experience a wide variety of patients as well as gain an understanding of the whole service and how each site functions within the pathway

3. Fixed-Term Band 6 MSK Physiotherapist. This role involves a caseload of both Primary and Secondary Care patients, based on one of our 3 sites for 12 months. This allows candidates to gain an experience of the UCHW Trust and provides an opportunity for candidates to develop their MSK skills in a supportive environment. This post allows candidates to expand their knowledge of MSK and gain valuable skills to add to their portfolio and career development.

Main duties of the job

The interview process will be the same for all 3 roles, with the highest scoring candidate able to choose their preferred role.

Successful candidates will become part of a dynamic service delivering high-quality MSK care that is timely and equitable across all three sites. The MSK outpatient service is made up of Physiotherapists, Technical Instructors, First Contact Practitioners, Advanced Practice Physiotherapists, Extended Scope Practitioners and Consultant Physiotherapists. Our service is committed to research and innovation as we aspire to provide the best outcomes for patients.

As a member of the team, you will receive regular In-Service Training and peer supervision as well as the prospect for further training and development through shadowing, and CPD opportunities

  1. Manage a caseload of both primary and secondary care patients with varying diagnosis and or /complex needs, using evidence based/ client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical area.
  2. Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training and annual appraisal.
  3. Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
  4. Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Physiotherapy service.
  5. Take a lead for information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.

  • Be responsible for own personal development in order to establish and maintain competence and fitness to practice as a Specialist Physiotherapist in own specialist area. To maintain a professional evidence-based portfolio, meeting the requirements of the HPC.
  • Be responsible for the supervision and written assessment of physiotherapy students on practice placement within the Trust.
  • Contribute to the Trusts Divisional and Teams clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda, including the setting and monitoring of practice standards, clinical risks, CAE & Health & Safety.
  • Be involved / assist in the recruitment and selection of junior staff.
