Job summary

We are recruiting for a Chief Cardiac Physiologist for Echocardiography who will share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Echocardiography service offers inpatient and outpatient services for TTE's, ACHD, TAVI and Oncology, as well as consultant led TOE, exercise, and pharmacological stress echo service.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, hardworking, and motivated to join our team. You will need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

Main duties of the job

1. Be a highly specialised advanced competent practitioner in echocardiography procedures.2. Have an advanced knowledge of products and procedures.3. Be able to autonomously perform routine and complex diagnostic procedures.4. Perform highly specialised diagnostic testing on patients to aid clinical diagnosis without supervision.5. Supervise and train other cardiac physiologists.6. Participate on a roster basis as required.7. Monitor and maintain quality of services within echocardiography.8. Be willing to develop further highly technical specialist and advanced practical skills in complex echo service.9. In conjunction with the Lead Cardiac Physiologist and the Cardiology Consultants, provideleadership and direction for the technical service at UHCW.

Job responsibilities

1. Provide professional leadership and manage an identified team of cardiac physiologists.

2. Participate in the day-to-day running of the department and to deputise for the Lead Cardiac Physiologist. To assist in managing technical resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring the smooth running of a quality service.

3. To independently assess referred patients. Monitor the appropriateness of referrals, obtaining information relevant to patient care, interpreting, and reporting clinical findings and ensuring appropriate discharge or ongoing care.

4. To support the team of cardiac physiologists, allowing them to develop their professional skills and enable them to maximise their performance. To provide formal training and assessment.

5. Encourage and support staff to obtain BSE accreditation.

6. To provide teaching and support, to all members of the department and medical staff who are learning technical cardiology.

7. To actively encourage and develop a multidisciplinary approach to cardiac care.

8. To maintain an interest in the profession, and knowledge of new techniques and protocols; attending courses where necessary, in line with the services demands.

9. Remain professional at all times, liaise with other clinical teams and maintain good public relations on a one-to-one basis with the general public and other interest groups.

10. Demonstrate empathy when dealing with patients in distressing conditions.
