Job summary
This post is for a Foundation Year 1 doctor to support the Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) team in delivering in-patient care, gaining experience of working in an acute Trust and participating in the on-call rota along with current trainees.
Candidates will require full registration with the General Medical Council. The post holder will be encouraged to develop clinical, managerial and educational skills within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
- Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
- Gain experience in general practice, and the interface between primary and secondary care.
- Improve all aspects of communication with patients, carers and staff members working within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Develop knowledge of hospital systems and clinical governance.
- Improve competencies in IT skills and critical use of evidence and data.
- Keep accurate records and completing discharge summaries.
- Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives, and senior medical staff.
- To take part in rostered emergency and on-call work.
- To keep up-to date with all administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries as required
- Maintain continued professional development.
- Undertake and assist in audit projects.
- Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
- To co-operate with members of the workforce department when monitoring hours of work.
- Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.
- Provide medical cover for surgical wards, including participation in daily ward rounds, attending to patient needs and providing direct clinical care.
