Job summary
As a Specialist Prescribing Pharmacist for High Cost Drugs and Homecare, you will have the privilege of cost-effectively managing various novel delivery models of care, in particular homecare service provision - achieving better care closer to home for our patients. You will be nurtured and supported by the experts within the clinical specialties with support as appropriate from pharmacy, to develop into a subject matter expert - utilising your prescribing skills in a specialist area based on interest and departmental need. You will also have key links to NHSEI and ICB commissioning teams.

Main duties of the job
- To become a subject matter expert with support from experts across clinical specialties and pharmacy as appropriate, utilising your prescribing skills in a specialist area based on interest and departmental need.
- To support implementation, financial monitoring and reporting of any waste reduction initiatives related to high cost drug usage at UHCW - thereby optimising patient outcomes and ensure medicines value.
- Support development of rational prescribing protocols and treatment pathways to facilitate high cost drug treatment access, in accordance with NICE Technology Appraisal recommendations.
- To provide support in the provision and development of pharmaceutical services, including guideline development across clinical areas within the Trust

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist to join our large and friendly team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) based in Coventry. We are a large Acute Teaching Hospital of approximately 1300 beds located in a PFI hospital which opened in 2006, situated just off the junction of the M6 and M69.
Our large pharmacy department has an innovative approach to pharmaceutical care with floor based medicines optimisation and management teams and pharmacist led specialty clinics. We have strong links with the Medical School at Warwick University, the Department of Medicines Management at Keele University and the School of Pharmacy at Aston University.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical, operational and financial aspects of High Cost Drugs usage and reporting within the organisation. This may include the utilisation and promotion of the Blueteq High Cost Drugs system or other systems as deemed necessary by commissioners.
Your integration into the highly skilled Pharmacy High Cost Drugs team, shortlisted as a finalist for the 2021 HSJ Patient Safety Awards, will be well supported. You will be expected to lead on certain aspects of the recording, review and utilisation of high cost drugs in the organisation with deadlines and targets set by UHCW contracting and CCG/NHSEI commissioners. This will be done under the direction of the Lead Pharmacist for High Cost Drugs and Homecare. Part of the role will also be to manage novel delivery models of care, in particular homecare service provision achieving better care closer to home for our patients.
There will be a small but manageable clinical aspect to this role where you will work to a high level. You may need to act as a Line manager, Pre-Registration Tutor, or a clinical co-ordinator for Diploma Students, if required.
In addition to providing excellent care, you will also develop your team and areas to ensure outstanding patient experience.
You will be a registered pharmacist with a suitable amount of hospital clinical pharmacy experience. You must hold a Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (or equivalent) and be willing and able to learn about High Cost Drugs, Homecare, commissioning, contracting arrangements and influencing senior staff. There will be a requirement to travel off-site for meetings, etc as needed also. In summary - 37.5 hours per week + EDC. There will be a requirement to work weekends/bank holidays, etc on a rota basis.
