This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant to join our Cardiology team to support the coronary and structural interventional cardiology services here at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. You will join an existing team of 7 interventional consultants to provide interventional cardiology services, and the post-holder will have appropriate experience and expertise in coronary and structural heart interventions.

Our interventional cardiology team currently provide PCI to around 1,200 patients (including 400 PPCI) and 120 TAVI procedures per annum. Our TAVI service has been in place at UHCW for over 8 years and is now growing rapidly with a projection to provide TAVI for 150 patients per annum by the end of 2023. We provide tertiary cardiac services for almost 1 million people in Coventry & Warwickshire. It is envisaged that the structural intervention service will closely support our partner hospitals in delivering accessible, high-quality treatment to the people of Coventry, Warwickshire & beyond.

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • Support General and TAVI outpatient clinics, expected to see 8 new or 10 follow up patients in each general clinic, and up to 8 new patients in a TAVI clinic.
  • Be expected to take part in the 'Consultant of the Week' rota to cover Acute Cardiology admissions.
  • Have 3-4 Catheter Laboratory sessions per week performing coronary and structural interventions.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of your patients and the running of clinical areas.
  • Be involved in the participation in the Primary Angioplasty service, with weekend on-call commitment that includes a Saturday and Sunday half day cathlab list as required for patients with acute coronary syndrome requiring urgent (but not emergent) PCI.
  • Participate fully in the education and training of medical students, trainee doctors, paramedical, nursing, and other appropriate staff.
  • Provide honest and constructive feedback in a supportive learning environment, teach by example, and encourage trainees to be curious.
