Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a high profile, accessible and responsive leader, with clinical responsibility for patients with respiratory disease is available.

The successful candidate will be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.

Main duties of the job

1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

2. Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of a high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.

3. A knowledgeable team leader and skilled practitioner, undertaking clinical history taking, physical examination in respiratory clinics, in line with evidence based practice, policies and procedures. Clinics may be held at any one of the trust sites, or alternative locations, therefore there is a requirement for the postholder to be able to independently travel to alternative sites.

Job responsibilities

1. Supports staff with service and policy development within the speciality.

2. A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.

3. Prioritise workload of themselves and others on a day to day basis; assessing performance and providing clear, constructive feedback to team members

4. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.

5. Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles

6. Responsible for education and development of staff within defined areas and participates in supervision, appraisal and mentorship of junior staff.

7. Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.

8. Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.

9. Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.

10. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

11. To provide specialist support for patients with respiratory disease, offering information,education and psychological support at the time of referral, diagnosis and throughout their disease trajectory.

12. To provide individualised patient care incorporating relevant research findings and information, undertaking regular reviews of clinical practice in conjunction with all staff in order to improve the quality of care

13. To support the wards during times of winter pressures, along with other CNS colleagues.
