We are looking to appoint a senior (post-FRCS or equivalent) trauma fellow to work with the orthopaedic trauma surgeons at one of the busiest major trauma centres in the UK. The post is intended to allow the applicant to subsequently undertake consultant practice with a specialist interest in complex trauma.The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the care of patients with serious injuries and will gain experience managing injuries including pelvic and acetabular fractures, periarticular fractures and open injuries.

The post involves experience managing patients with multiple injuries and multidisciplinary working with all relevant specialities within the MTC.

An on-call commitment is required but the focus is on the surgical management of complex trauma.

The post is for 6 months commencing February 2024. Applicants wishing to apply for a later 6 month slot will also be welcome.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Regular trauma operating sessions.
  • Attend appropriate specialist and general fracture clinics.
  • Supervising the treatment of patients in UHCW Hospital
  • Carrying our regular ward rounds as appropriate.
  • Participation in clinical audit and research activities within the unit.
  • Active involvement in the training and supervision of Junior Medical Staff on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics, including the teaching of medical and nursing students.
  • Participation in the registrar on call rota: midweek and weekend day on-calls.
