Job summary

The post holder 1.0 WTE) will participate in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials or research projects within the WISDEM Centre. When working on clinical trials he/she will monitor the patients and observe for side effects during the trial. An important aspect of the role is the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of data derived from the research studies. The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

The role involves applying extensive knowledge of clinical research and of trial protocols and their application in practice and research methodology. Additionally, the role requires an in-depth working knowledge of the requirements of local, national and international research regulations.

Main duties of the job

Accountable for own actions in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local Trust, and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

To undertake mandatory infection control updates and be accountable for all infection control issues as per Trust policies and guidelines.

Clinical Research

  • To assist with clinical research projects involving tissue collection, in compliance with all relevant national and Trust regulations for the handling of data and human tissue.
  • To assist in the generation, upkeep and distribution of clinical protocols within the area of specialty.
  • To provide ongoing advice and information to patients/volunteers with regard to their participation in clinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent.
  • To assist in the assessment of patients/volunteers for eligibility for research and monitoring of their c, R&D and Governance approvals for projects.
  • Word processing standard letters and other communications as appropriate.
  • Assist in the preparation of results of research for presentation as posters or scientific presentations.
  • To provide ongoing information, education and support to patients (and their significant others) regarding research and their care. Manage difficult and or unexpected situations arising in the clinical area.
