As a large teaching hospital we have a wide range of rotations providing you with the foundation knowledge to begin your hospital pharmacy career.

Main duties of the job
As the successful candidate, you will provide a high quality clinical pharmacy service to all patients across the Trust, working closely with all members of the pharmacy team. You will undertake training and gain experience in various areas of the pharmacy department and clinical specialties through a structured, competency assessed, rotational programme covering specialties in:
- Acute Medicine
- Cardiac Services
- Women's and Children's Services
- Gastro medicine and surgery
- General Surgery
- General Medicine
- Respiratory Medicine
- Neuro Sciences
- Aseptic Services
- Medicines Information
- Clinical Trials
- Renal Medicine
- Trauma and Orthopaedics
In addition, we are committed to supporting you though a clinical pharmacy diploma as national funding streams allow, and therefore we have designed a mentorship structure within the rotations to help co-ordinate your journey from newly qualified to a highly effective member of the clinical pharmacy team.
Applications are welcomed from both Trainee Pharmacists aiming to qualify in August/September 2023 and registered Clinical Pharmacists working in UK NHS hospital Trusts. Come and join our newly designed rotational programme. As a rotational pharmacist at UHCW you will receive:
- A full portfolio to support and structure your learning - A specialist clinical supervisor for each rotation to support with specialist knowledge- Dedicated study time- Fully funded diploma
Our large pharmacy department has an innovative approach to pharmaceutical care with floor based medicines optimisation and management teams and pharmacist led speciality clinics. We have strong links with the Medical School at Warwick University, the Department of Medicines Management at Keele University and the School of Pharmacy at Aston University.
Main Duties/ Responsibilities
1. Check prescriptions for clarity, safety and efficacy on wards, in dispensaries/ satellite units and the aseptic laboratory and when necessary take accurate drug histories to facilitate this. Provide a full medicines reconciliation and optimisation service to patients and clinical areas. Query with, and provide the prescriber with appropriate information to effect a change in the prescription when clinically required, to ensure patients safety and effective therapy.
2. Provide information to nursing and medical staff on allocated wards on any aspect of medicines policy ensuring safe practice. Provide information to patients on allocated wards or in dispensaries concerning their medication and answer any resulting questions or queries.
3. Provide when necessary, through checking, dispensing clinical ward cover or supervision of technicians, an efficient medication supply service from any of the pharmacy departments, including the aseptic laboratory and from any site of the Trust.
4. Ensure patients discharge medication is accurate and dispensed in advance of the patients discharge, by writing the patients medication on the GP discharge prescription and conveying to the GP all necessary information concerning the patient medication to ensure a safe transfer to primary care. Reducing pharmaceutical waste by utilising patients own drugs in the discharge process.
5. Work flexibly across all of the Pharmacy departments, covering the work of colleagues during peak periods or absence.
6. Participate in appropriate training and development activities including your own personal development and participate in the education and training of colleagues and all other healthcare professionals on medicine legislation, pharmacology, medication risk and best prescribing practice.
7. Participate in any Trust or departmental audits and operational tasks as may be required.
8. Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives.
9. Participate in weekend, Bank Holiday and Emergency Duty Commitment working as may be required.
10. Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Pharmacy in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
