Job summary
We are looking for a forward thinking enthusiastic, cardiac physiologists to help support the delivery of a high quality cardiac investigations service in this leading tertiary centre.
This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced cardiac physiologist who is keen to progress their career and is looking for a more senior role, or a senior cardiac physiologist who wants to specialise in echo or cardiac rhythm management.

Main duties of the job
1. To work as a specialist practitioner across the range of complex procedures performed in the Department of Cardiac Investigations.
2. To provide specialist expertise for clinical practice and to manage their workload, ensuring effective planning and organisation for service delivery. To report shortfalls and delays in the service to the appropriate Senior Chief CP, or Service Manager, to minimise patient delays.
3. To ensure that all procedures and data produced are to the required standard and are documented in accordance with Department Operational Procedures/national guidelines and to actively contribute to effective service delivery and service development.
4. To ensure diagnostic tests are performed in accordance with protocols, and data and diagnostic reports containing a range of complex facts and measurements are accurate and produced in a timely manner.

As a large tertiary centre we provide the full range of invasive, non-invasive and therapeutic procedures.
Our echocardiography department in particular is expanding quickly and we currently perform over 8000 studies annually through our outpatient and inpatient transthoracic echocardiography service. More advanced services include adult congenital heart disease echocardiography, stress echocardiography, 3D-echocardiography, strain imaging, transoesophageal echocardiography, intraprocedural echocardiography, contrast (LV and Bubble) which are actively participated in by the echocardiography physiologists.
The device implant service has grown and now includes S-ICDs and Micra A-V, as well as ICD, CRT-d, CRT-p and brady pacemakers, and we have expanding remote follow-up clinics to compliment the face-to-face clinics running each day.
Our EP / RFA and 3D mapping service utilises Precision, Carto and CRYO technologies and we regularly utilise new technologies on a limited market release basis. Following expansion to the VT ablation service, the Trust is now the largest centre within the region providing the procedure and is the Abbott VT Ablation training centre within the UK.
Other cath lab procedures include closure devices, TAVI, IVUS etc and a 24 / 7 PPCI service that is one of the best in the country.
The department encourages and supports research, educational development and attendance at local and national meetings. We actively support the training of cardiac physiologists, and members of the wider MDT, and we can tailor the support you receive to meet your developmental needs.

Main responsibilities:
1. To be competent to document patient data for investigations undertaken within the department, ensuring that all data is accurate and processed in a timely manner and produced in the appropriate report format.
2. To ensure highest levels of concentration and accuracy to complete tasks and interpret results.
3. To provide judgements, which involve complex analysis and interpretation of data on either a daily or prolonged basis. To provide diagnostic reports and to be responsible for accurate data entry and storage of data within established departmental policies and codes ofpractice.
4. Provide clinical supervision, teaching and support to trainees and junior staff ensuring tasks are completed in accordance with departmental procedures and appropriate time scales.
5. To have complex hand / eye coordination and dexterity in the timely and accurate use of diagnostic machinery, equipment and consumables.
6. To be able to work in occasionally unpleasant and stressful working conditions as well as the ability to perform occasional moderate physical effort for short period during the shift including the movement of patients and heavy diagnostic equipment.
7. To ensure information given to patients about test procedures, which is often highly complex and at times under highly distressing conditions, is communicated in a manner that ensures patients dignity is maintained, that the patient understands the procedure, and that the patient is supported and reassured whilst attending for their procedure. Also thatthe patient leaves with an understanding of how they will receive test results. This will include adults, children, and at times those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
8. To ensure complex and expensive diagnostic/ therapeutic equipment is used in accordance with health & safety, handling and moving guidelines and equipment malfunction is dealt with in accordance with departmental protocols. To undertake the day to day care and maintenance /calibration of all equipment used in the department.
9. To ensure adequate stock levels of consumable are maintained to ensure effective utilisation of resources and continual service delivery.
