We are looking to recruit a motivated and hard-working individual who not only has an excellent clinical skill set but more so the communication skills to foster efficient relationships to effectively care for our teenage population who require both physical and emotional support.

On Ward 14 we have a vacancy within our excellent team who specialise in Adolescent care.

Ward 14 is a 12 bedded unit caring for young people requiring support from a multitude of specialisms including Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and Mental Health.

Ward 14 has a strong team spirit and actively pursue improvements in patient care which provides a sense of team pride.

We have a very supportive and welcoming team which includes the Ward Managers, Matrons, Practice Educators, and a dedicated Paediatric Workforce Lead, this will ensure you receive all the support you need throughout the recruitment process as well as caring for your training and induction needs to enable you to carry out your role safely and efficiently ensuring excellent standards of care.

Main duties of the job

For all Band 6 staff we offer a robust month-long induction program to ease the transition into a new working environment which we will adapt to meet the needs of each individual candidate.

At UHCW we have a real focus on training and development. With the support of our dedicated team of in-house Paediatric Practice Educators, all our staff are encouraged to attain the skills and knowledge required to deliver first class care.

Courses you will be able to complete within your first year in post will include Safety Interventions Training, the Camhs course at Birmingham University. You will also be required to complete the EPLS course so that you can then take responsibility for the paediatric bleep enabling you to offer support to the Paediatric Resus Department within the Children's Emergency Department as well as supporting other areas of the Paediatric Unit as required.

Detailed main duties

1. Manage the care of a group of children and their families for the duration of the shift

2. Develop partnerships with children and their families to enable to deliver care

3. Be responsible for evaluating the care given verbally and written reports.

4. Take account of the health promotion needs of the individual child/family, and ensure that relevant information and support are given to meet these needs at an appropriate time during the childs stay in hospital.

5. Ensure that all drugs are administered, recorded and stored in accordance with the paediatric Unit and Hospital Drug Policies.

6. Practices in line with NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times

7. Act in accordance with local child protection procedures.

8.Ensure that all untoward incidents and accidents are reported, using appropriate documentation.

9. Ensure that effective discharge planning, which begins at the time of admission, is developed and maintained to assist in optimal discharge time for the child.

10. Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection control
