This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in Medical Retina to join our Ophthalmology team at UHCW.
The post holder will actively provide and support the further development of first class ophthalmology services for the Trust, working in collaboration with clinical colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated service for patients.
This post is principally to the Medical Retina service along with three other medical retina specialists. The post will be for 10 programmed activities per week, giving adequate time for SPA duties.
The department has a regular commitment to audit, with 10 sessions per year committed to audit and clinical governance. Teaching is an integral part of the unit, with junior doctors, medical students, Orthoptic and optometry students rotating through the department.
The candidate will be expected to participate in seminars and lectures for medical students, junior doctors and other professional or lay groups with health interests. The current on call rota is 1 in 14, third on call.

Main duties of the job
To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive ophthalmology service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times. To actively participate in the teaching and training of trainees and support and innovate changes within the department.
This post requires a special interest in glaucoma management and the holder will work with three existing glaucoma specialists (one part-time) to maintain and assist in the delivery of a comprehensive service in this field.
