Job summary

The Trust is committed to the continued personal development of all staff. The Integrated Emergency and Urgent Care Centre plays a key role in coordinating and supporting front line operational staff to deliver a high standard of care to patients within the local and national performance targets that the Trust is measured against.We are also responsible for the delivery and coordination of patients within the West Midlands to the most appropriate referral following telephone assessment of symptoms. Referral can be for an emergency ambulance response, emergency treatment centre or to any of the Primary Care Services in and Out of Hours (OOHs) in the West Midlands area. Ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to patients within the local and national performance targets that the Trust is measured against

The Tutor post is a key role in the delivery within the IEUC

An exciting development opportunity has become available for an experienced member of EOC to join the well established Training Team as a Development IEUC Tutor. The development programmed will provide successful applicants with an insight into the role and responsibilities of a Tutor in preparation for live vacancies.

Please note, you will remain on your current salary / banding during this development if successful. If a vacancy then becomes available you will be required to apply via the normal channels & will be offered a training salary of 75% top of B6 until fully qualified.

Main duties of the job

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the Line management of trainees within the IEUC training environment for a period of 6 months during training and mentoring periods.

The delivery of all Pathways content and modules e.g. CM1/CM2 in line with license agreement and national training framework.

To maintain full competences providing a front-line service answering emergency and urgent care calls utilising a clinical triage advice system, maintaining call answering license utilising interpersonal skills to manage distressing/aggressive and difficult calls.

Responsible for designing, writing, updating, and delivering training materials for all aspects of IEUC training, computer system, telephone system, processing emergency, urgent and general calls, operating the radio and dispatch position.

Undertake the evaluation, examination process, and assessment of IEUC clinical and non-clinical staff to standards determined by relevant awarding bodies, through quality management systems and Trust policies and procedures.

Facilitate the logistical requirements supporting the delivery of educational courses in varying locations, to IEUC and non IEUC WMAS staff and other ambulance services.

Design and implement reporting mechanisms to ensure the accurate and up-to-date evaluation and assessment of staff.

Responsible for policy and service development within own area whilst providing theoretical information to other managers and staff based upon an in-depth technical knowledge and relevant multi-disciplinary expertise to be implemented and utilised for the wider audience e.g. National and other trust services.

Ensure the accurate documentation of all evaluations and assessments is compiled and processed in accordance with national and local policies and procedures. Provide constructive, performance related feedback to the trainees, existing staff undertaking additional training requirements e.g. mandatory changes in practice/CPD such as MHFA, coaches courses.

Collaborate with the WMAS departments and national externa bodies in development of tools essential to patient care within IEUC e.g. BHF defig project, CPR workshops/decider skills/sexual safety/safeguarding level /BLS/Bleed kit deployment to support better outcomes.

Responsible for updating/maintaining all training records for all IEUC staff, using ESR, or locally agreed frameworks to record student learning for national recording and registration of smart cards.

Responsible for ensuring all IEUC staff are registered and recorded with external bodies and that they are compliant with the appropriate licencing requirements.

Responsible for the delivery of mandatory training for new and existing staff. E.g. Corporate Induction, basic life support refresher courses, fire lectures, Health and Safety awareness, Safeguarding, Data Protection and Caldicott etc.

Monitor and record the progress and development of students throughout the educational process, identifying, dealing, and documenting difficulties encountered by individuals. Evaluate performance, implementing and creating capability plans when required through SMART objectives tailoring to the individual needs. Conduct informal job performance in accordance with service policies through compiled reports.

Responsibility for new staff joining the IEUC, to Monitor, document and escalate concerns around competence via assessment during Pathways training and live call taking (first 2 months of employment). 2-month review and PETS score during period under the remit of training.

Undertake PDC and one to one of all new trainees joining the Trust as part of their induction.

Responsible for the accurate reporting of audit verification information for SI/RCA/disciplinary/grievance and capability. Provide subject matter expert input, recommendations, and resolutions.

Responsible for investigating, reviewing and providing expert opinion on complex cases to include complaints.

To plan/schedule and manage student attendance to courses and mentoring periods.

Responsibility for the trainee rosters, annual leave allocation, sickness and attendance management from return-to-work interviews through to absence reviews and stages, OH referrals, DSE, Stress risk assessments and wellness action plans

Operate and utilise I.T./training equipment in order to compile and deliver training packages, in accordance with Trust IM+T Policies. Ensure equipment to be utilised during the educational periods is safe and fit for the purpose and carry out minor servicing/assembly when required.
