Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a caring person to join our well established Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services Team as a Porter. The successful applicant will assist with the transport of patients with varying mobility's within the Treatment Centres and Wards at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.

Applicants should hold a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English & Maths or must be willing to sign up to complete an NVQ within the first 12 months of employment with the Trust.

Experience of working within a public service or customer care environment along with holding a full clean licence is essential for this post.

About us

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, all applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. Job description

Job responsibilities

Collection and co-ordination of patients from treatment centres and wards to ensure greater efficiency of operational resources.

In conjunction with the Operations Centre Team, ensures that patient movement is co-ordinated and that a dialogue exists between the locally based operational staff and operations centre to maximise the effective use of available resources.

In liaison with the Operations Centre Team, ensure the effective deployment of resources to ensure service provision to the Locality.

Communicates with staff on wards and departments at treatment centre/units, ensuring any issues are dealt with in the appropriate manner or directed accordingly.

Transport patients within the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service contract, undertaking pre-planned and ad-hoc Patient Transport journeys.

Effective care of patients, appropriate to their requirements using available equipment.

Transfer patients using equipment and skills specific to individual needs

Assist with the transfer of patients within the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service contract, as a non-driver assisting with pre-planned and ad-hoc Patient Transfer journeys.

Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.

Adhere to corporate Instructions and Policies, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures, other verbal or written instructions promulgated by the Service currently or in the future.

The full and accurate maintenance of all records and reports in line with Service policies and procedures, including Accident reporting, Incident Reporting, Patient Transport Records both paper and electronic.

Ensure vehicles and equipment meet agreed serviceability and that they are kept in a state of cleanliness with daily checks recorded and any defects recorded for action to be taken.

Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards and quality of care.

Maintain a current valid driving licence.

Ensure effective communication with the Commercial Control Centre, by telephone, in writing and by electronic means.

Work within Contract Specific Quality Standards and ensure a high level of customer care.

Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and dignified manner.

Performing other tasks in keeping with the post as required by supervisory staff and Officers
