Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Clinical Team Mentor to join the well established MERIT Team.
Successful applicants will be HCPC Registered Paramedics with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience & must have completed the NQP consolidation period and portfolio sign off (if applicable). You must hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Pre-hospital Critical Care and have significant experience working as in an enhanced care setting.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be accountable for the development and maintenance of excellent operational and clinical performance within the WMAS CCP and Trainee CCP cadre.
As peer mentors you will create an educational environment providing feedback and support to CCPs and Trainee CCPs along with monitoring, reviewing and implementing new initiatives identifying training needs and risks to WMAS
If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both
Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. Central to the

responding to and treating patients with critical illness and injury within the
West Midlands Region are an advanced clinical team of Critical Care Paramedics
(CCPs); functioning to ensure patients are attended, treated, transported and
triaged to an appropriate receiving hospital in a seamless manner.
The MERIT Clinical
Team Mentor is primarily responsible for ensuring an excellent patient
experience and clinical outcome is afforded to patients of WMAS. The
post-holder will provide clinical mentorship within the enhanced care
directorate ensuring that all CCPs and Trainee CCPs are supported through means
of observation and evaluation and are astute to their clinical responsibility and
patient outcome. Through means of application and imparting knowledge the
post-holder will keep CCPs and Trainee CCPs abreast of current guidelines, SOPs
and the wider evidence base in their scope of practice.
Specifically,
this involves:

the
provision of clinical and operational support and mentorship for all CCPs and
Trainee CCPs with the aim of developing a culture of professional reflective
practice and continued professional development.

supporting
the development of interventions and therapies in response to the best current
evidence and in line with the direction established by the MERIT Clinical Lead

practicing
as a Critical Care Paramedic and working across the range of platforms that the
role of CCP entails, including but not limited to:
o
Medical
Emergency Response Intervention Team (MERIT)
o
Regional
Trauma Desk (RTD) & Critical Care Desk (CCD)
o
WMAS
Critical Care Car(s)
As part of their core role, the post-holder
will be responsible for the following key areas:
Prioritising and managing emergency
medical and trauma calls to include deployment and co-ordination of the regions
enhanced care assets, liaison with operational ambulance clinicians, hospitals
and other appropriate organisations in order to co-ordinate and facilitate retrieval
and transfer of primary and hyper-acute trauma patients to Major Trauma Centres
coming into and within the WMAS Region.
Working as an autonomous practitioner or
as part of a crew to provide immediate and enhanced care by means of assessing
patients, delivering appropriate specialist interventions, triaging and ensuring
appropriate transfer to definitive care.
You will also be required to assist in managing the scene at a significant/major
incident where appropriate.
Maintaining HCPC Paramedic registration,
CCP specific governance and training requirements, with relevant evidence to
support. You will be responsible for safe advanced emergency driving response
of Trust rapid response vehicles and ambulances.
The level of advanced practice required for this role
requires skills and experience gained from successful completion of a Level 7 (Masters
level) PGCert in Prehospital Critical Care (or equivalent academic
qualification) with extensive post registration study and experience, including
regularly working alongside and supporting Medical Consultant colleagues,
attending study days, placements and courses.
