Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Vehicle Cleaning Operative to join our well established Patient Transport Services team at our PTS site in Frankley, Birmingham

The postholder is required to perform a number of duties relating to the stocking of equipment and supplies, preparation of vehicles, washing and cleaning of the vehicles and movement of vehicles as required

Applicant must hold a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English & Maths (or equivalent) or must be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification whilst in post within the first 12 months of employment along with a full UK driving licence showing no more than 3 points and experience of working within a similar role.

If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, all applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. The cost of £55.76 for an enhanced check is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Upon receipt of your DBS you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.

Job responsibilities

Operational & Support Services.

The correct scale of stocking of clinical equipment and consumables, and notification of low stocks levels to the appropriate person(s).

All Make Ready quality standards set by the Trust are met.

The deep cleaning programme for vehicles is coordinated with the vehicle servicing schedule, using Fleet Base.

Any requests for the operational movement of vehicles and equipment is undertaken.

Ensure vehicles and equipment are cleaned and any defects are recorded for action to be taken.

Adhere to corporate Instructions and Policies, the Code of Conduct, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures, COSHH, HAZCHEM and other verbal or written instructions promulgated by the Service currently or in the future.

The full and accurate maintenance of all records in line with Service policies and procedures, both written and electronic using Fleet Wave.

Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards of work.

Performing other tasks in keeping with the post as required by supervisory staff and Officers.

Vehicle Maintenance.

To assist Fleet Services in maintaining the operational serviceability of the vehicle fleet by undertaking vehicle inspection minor running repairs to vehicles, including basic problem solving, and fault finding, following completion of induction and training period. Make judgements and decisions, some of which may require analysis.

Health and Safety at Work.

Compliance with H&SE requirements in the use of all equipment and materials applicable to the Make Ready function.

Communications.

To ensure effective communications with staff and their representatives both verbally, in writing and electronically Identify and minimise interpersonal conflict.

Reports

To make reports as directed or as may be required on matters relevant to the Make Ready function, both in writing and electronically such as:

Personal accidents whilst on and off duty.

Injuries sustained whilst at work.

Loss or damage to Service vehicles and equipment.

Abuses of the Service.

Reporting of any hazardous, dangerous or defective equipment, premises or practices.

Effort and Environmental Factors

The work takes place in an open garage environment which is susceptible to extreme conditions of temperature.

The physical requirements of the job include lifting and carrying supplies, and equipment such as stretchers and carry chairs. Frequent requirement to exert light physical effort for several long periods during a shifts.

Physical effort is required to wash vehicles using pressure jet washer, and protective clothing is issued.

The post holder is exposed to unpleasant smells, temperature, weather, bodily fluid on a day to day basis several times a shift.

Additional Duties

Perform such duties of either a higher or lower rank as may be reasonable from time to time.

To ensure adherence to Health and Safety at Work Act.

To ensure adherence to directions as published in Routine Instructions.

To develop oneself within the job and be proactive in identifying own professional development needs.

To contribute towards the development and review of the training needs of own peers and colleagues.

To provide professional advice and assistance in training of Trust employees as appropriate.

Attend any course the Service deems necessary for individual and/or organisational development.

Perform any other reasonable duties as may be assigned from time to time by your Line Manager.
