Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available for a substantive Operations Manager to join the well established team at Erdington HUB

The post holder will have responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the operational and strategic objectives of the Trust through the provision of operational management under the direction of the Senior Operations Manager.

The focus will be on achieving clinical excellence through optimising operational performance, ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently, day to day line management and support of staff. As outlined in the duties and responsibilities listed below.

Applicants must be HCPC Registered Paramedics with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience & must have completed NQP consolidation period & portfolio (if applicable - evidence will be required). Applicants must also have completed, be working towards (or booked onto) the NARU Operational Commanders & SORT Practitioner courses.

Job responsibilities

Provide leadership and management to operational /non-operational staff to ensure the provision of a high quality service and achievement of Key Performance Indicators.

Responsible for the daily management, estates, supporting clinical supervision, medicines management and infection prevention and control across the operational area.

Promote service developments e.g. use of alternative care pathways, admission avoidance, and new equipment. Manage hospital turnarounds in liaison with Trust and hospital staff.

Participate in mentoring and coaching when necessary and support mentors when challenges occur and be able to produce appropriate development plans.

Participate on clinical competency panels and undertake case reviews to promote clinical excellence and reflective practice. Facilitate clinical effectiveness to align research with practice.

Ensure staff who have a clinical requirement highlighted for either retraining or additional mentorship are directed to the appropriate clinical lead or the Clinical Team Mentors.

Lead and motivate operational staff to ensure the provision of a high quality care to patients by achievement of Clinical Performance Indicators.

Work with the Fleet Department to ensure vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained to manufacturers recommendations

In liaison with the local management and make ready teams, ensure the cost effective use of stock and equipment.

Investigate complaints and untoward incidents; produce reports detailing investigation findings and recommendations.

Participate in a 24/7 hour roster to provide a continuous visible operational management presence for staff and an operational incident command ability to include external/contracted events.

Maintain knowledge of JESIP principles in order to act at a CBRNe or other major incident as an operational commander

Implement and follow Standard Operating Procedures as directed by the Senior Operations Manager/Tactical Director of Operations.

Actions and decisions taken will be documented through a shift log; the post holder will be accountable to the Senior Operations Manager/Tactical Director of Operations.

Be subject to peer led reviews and work based assessments to ensure consistency in the delivery of the strategic objectives across all area as given by the Tactical Director of Operations.

Manage scheduling and rostering issues where applicable, to include domestic emergency leave, all other absences; maintaining and updating appropriate staff records and information systems.

Promote Continuous Professional Development (CPD) with all staff and ensure staffs Personal Development Reviews (PDR) are conducted as directed by the Senior Operations Manager.

Maintain Paramedic registration and Continued Professional Development (CPD) for clinical and managerial competencies.

Represent the Trust as required, working closely with other healthcare professionals, external agencies such as Police, Fire, the voluntary sector, members of the public and both internal and external stakeholders which will include attendance at crown and coroners court, etc.

Undertake project work as requested by the Senior Operations Manager and/or Tactical Director of Operations which may include audits or complaints, and produce reports with outcomes and recommendations as appropriate.

Pro-actively manage issues affecting clinical care or operational performance which include, grievance and discipline; staff conduct, health, safety, welfare and ensure resolutions are documented and reported to the Senior Operations Manager through the shift log.

Ensure all sickness absence issues are dealt with appropriately, supporting staff where necessary and conducting return-to-work interviews
