Main duties of the job

The trust has been successful in obtaining charitable funding for the recruitment of a Community Response Manager for an 18 month secondment opportunity.

The trust is looking to recruit an enthusiastic leader who has a passion for working with volunteer first responders to increase the overall successful delivery of community response operations and therefore, support the trust in delivering timely patient care.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working within the Community Response Department to maintain and grow the delivery of community response activities, that also includes becoming the day to day contact for any community response related questions, challenges or opportunities across the volunteer networks the trust supports.

Applicants must be HCPC Registered Paramedics with a minimum of 12 monthspost qualification and must have completed NQP consolidation period & Portfolio sign off (evidence will be required) or ECP Qualified

Job responsibilities

Maintain clinical competencies as a HCPC Registered Paramedic

Participate in Trust clinical audit where required relating to community response or public defibrillation.

Participate in clinical audit and effectiveness processes as required with external agencies where authorised by the trust, such as The British Heart Foundation

Provide support and debriefing for those providing CPR or Defibrillation and first responders as well as local monitoring and availability to support responders.

Retrieve downloads from AEDs at sites following an incident where an AED has been deployed where requested by the trust.

To contribute to the development and organisation of the National Defibrillator Network

Co-ordinate aspects of all the community responder schemes.

Co-ordinate and support the promotion and development of all local schemes and the National Defibrillator Programme.

Co-ordinate local roll out of the national programme taking account of the full range of community first responder schemes

Ensure joined-up-working across all local AED and first responder schemes

Monitor the effectiveness of the National Defibrillator Programme and local schemes to ensure efficient use of, clinical standards, professional care and the efficient use of resources

Conduct site visits to CFR schemes or Community Defibrillators when required

Manage the links between the ambulance service, the NHS locally, the DOH, BHF and community responder schemes including those run by the voluntary sector

Liaise across multi-disciplinary groups in relation to community and first responders.

Maintain and contribute to the operational profile of the service within the community

Undertake other managerial duties and assist the trusts senior management team when required.

Produce regular reports on community response activity or assigned projects when required

Co-ordinate Committees for community responder and co- responder schemes and ensure effective communication throughout the Trust.

Organise training retraining in basic life support and the use of the automated external defibrillator for staff at sites to receive AEDs under the defibrillator programme.

Ensure competent volunteers are available at all sites, within the AED programme, to deliver a consistent high quality response

Ensure standard training and retraining in line with the European Resuscitation Council and Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines

Maintain electronic records of all training activity with call and recall procedures for training

In liaison with the Head of Education and Training seek Trust support for relevant professional development opportunities seen as necessary to maintain and improve clinical competence

Identify developmental opportunities within the work context of personal and professional development.

Assist with the investigation of complaints

Undertake development projects and assist the appointed Community Response Department lead

Promote the benefits of Community Response and subsequent recruitment in conjunction with the trusts press office

Link with local and national media through the Trusts press office liaising with other organisations where appropriate

Undertake duties in relation to major incidents including exercises that may require recall to duty in accordance with the Trusts Major Incident Procedure.

Maintain professional registration as a Paramedic through the Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC)

Uphold standards of personal and professional conduct and performance as required by HCPC

Take part in activities that lead to personal and or team growth.

Attend supervision and appraisal sessions with the Line Manager

Take a lead in identifying own development needs

Be personally responsible for not undertaking any task or action which would knowingly cause risk to themselves, others, or to the trust

As far as is reasonably practicable attempt to prevent other people from undertaking tasks or actions which would knowingly cause risk to themselves, others or to the Trust

Identify and report actual or potential hazards risks in the work environment in accordance with Trust policies
