Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available for a High Dependency Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services Persons to join the well established team at our Gravelly PTS site.

The main purpose of this role is toperform the duties of a High Dependency Patient Transport Person complying with protocols and local agreements with a high duty of care.

The main purpose is to transport patients with varying mobilities to and from treatment centres or other venues as directed.

This may be by car or ambulance or other vehicle, either using emergency procedure or not as required

Applicants must have a good standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or the equivalent of) including English & Maths.Qualification evidence will be required, therefore, please ensure you have & can provide this prior to applying, failure to do so will result in your application being withdrawn

About us

If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. The cost of £55.76 for an enhanced check is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Job responsibilities

To undertake additional training and assessment to ensure that you are competent for the role required of them, and to maintain your knowledge and skills for the role.

Transport patients undertaking pre-planned and ad-hoc Patient Transport journeys

To act as an observer for the driver when negotiating areas of difficult access and also when reversing.

To, at the beginning of each shift, or as soon as possible thereafter check the ambulance that you have been assigned to ensuring that all of the required equipment is present, functional and that there are acceptable levels of consumables available.

To be able to operate communication devices including mobile phones, digital radios and where available telemetry systems to receive and communicate the status of an individual case

To assess patients in line with their scope of practice and to seek assistance when required

Complete WMAS patient report forms for each case in line with the appropriate policies and procedures.

To select and then use appropriate lifting and handling equipment to enable the patient to be moved to and from health care facilities and residential accommodation following manual handling guidelines.

To provide a clinical handover to health care professional taking responsibility for the onward care of the patient.

To adhere to Infection Control Policies and Procedures, ensuring that the working environment is cleaned regularly.

To ensure that the Health and Safety of colleagues and yourself is maintained and, that where identified hazards or untoward occurrences occur these are reported using the Trusts procedures.

To communicate with patients and relatives being sensitive to their needs.

Maintain a continuous professional development portfolio.

Maintain a current valid driving licence, and undertake additional driving courses as required for the post.

Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users
