Major Trauma Governance Lead

Job summary

The Peninsula Trauma Network (PTN) is inviting applications for the role of Quality Governance Lead -- a key leadership position at the heart of trauma care across the South West. This is an exciting opportunity to influence system-wide improvement, strengthen clinical governance, and help ensure the highest standards of care for patients who have sustained major trauma injuries.

This is a replacement post offered as a 2-year appointment, with the option to extend for a third year. The PTN office is based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP), the region's Major Trauma Centre, but the role is open to suitably qualified clinicians from across the Network. Where the successful applicant is employed outside UHP, a secondment arrangement will be agreed with their host Trust.

Main duties of the job

As Quality Governance Lead, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for clinical governance and performance
  • Chair monthly governance teleconferences and biannual meetings, including M&M reviews
  • Ensure compliance with national systems for safe, effective trauma care
  • Work closely with the Clinical Director and report to the Network Executive Board
  • Collaborate with the Ambulance Service, MTC, Trauma Units and wider providers to monitor and improve quality and safety

This role shapes governance across the trauma pathway and drives continuous improvement for patients across the Peninsula.

About Operational Delivery Networks (ODNs)ODNs unite clinicians, providers, commissioners and patients to improve complex care systems. They operate under NHS England South West Specialised Commissioning and focus on:

  • Increasing operational effectiveness and consistency
  • Reducing unwarranted variation and inequalities
  • Improving care quality, outcomes and shared learning
  • Managing patient flows for equitable access

Essential requirements

  • Full GMC/GDC registration with relevant College membership
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Clinical experience in trauma care

You should also bring

  • Leadership or management experience
  • Ability to influence colleagues and deliver improvements
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Trauma governance or service leadership experience (advantageous)
  • National/regional contribution, trauma teaching and project management skills (desirable)
