Job summary

To assist the registered practitioner to provide a high standard of evidence based patient care within the Cardiothoracic Theatre Complex, by participating in clinical and non-clinical duties.

  • Undertake clinical and non-clinical duties and assume responsibility for carrying out elements of care, for which they have received appropriate training, under the guidance and direction of a registered Theatre practitioner
  • ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

  • Follow correct manual handling policies and procedures during the daily movement of heavy equipment, instrumentation and beds to and from the wards, and theatre complex, including the medical equipment library.
  • Assist with the safe transfer of patients to and from the Cardiothoracic Theatre Complex.
  • Participate in the cleaning of theatre areas inline with control of infection policies.
  • Responsible for the correct preparation of the post-operative Cardiothoracic beds.
  • Prepare and restock 02 and C02 cylinders on a daily basis.
  • Assist with stock labelling, ordering and re-stocking on a daily basis, whilst adhering to manual handling policy and procedures.
  • Ensure correct labelling, handing and transportation of patient specimens according to Trust policy.
