Biomedical Scientist - Haematology and Transfusion

Job summary

Applicants must be HCPC state registered and have demonstrable experience of working in a diagnostic laboratory or about to complete registration portfolio. For the successful candidate who is appointed and currently working towards the registration portfolio, you will be appointed as a trainee under Annex 21 during the training period,

  • up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
  • (ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;

This is a full-time post with extended working days and overnight duties once qualified. There is also a commitment to participate in a weekend rota, bank holiday rota and on call once trained.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

To perform analysis of biological samples including blood, cerebral spinal fluid and other clinical samples, taking personal responsibility for the quality of the results, which are used in the diagnosis, treatment and management of haematological conditions.

Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge and competence in the performance of all tests and investigations carried out at bench level.

To have sufficient proven knowledge and competence to work on rotation in Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion.

About us

The section processes over 2500 samples per day and has UKAS accreditation and is a recognised IBMS training laboratory.

Staff are encouraged to further their own development and assist with CPD related activities. The laboratory is well equipped and is fully computerised.

The post holder will work together with senior staff and support staff in all sections of the Combined Laboratory to produce a timely, high quality, accurate and cost effective service.
