Consultant Cardiologist in Interventional Cardiology

Job summary

Job Purpose:

  • To provide a consultant led service in Cardiology with specialisation in Interventional Cardiology

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a 1 in 9 on-call rota for Primary PCI, covering 24/7, 365 days per year.

  • Provide inpatient care on cardiology wards, assessment of cardiac patients on MAU, inpatient referrals and Advice and Guidance service to GPs by participating on the non-PCI consultant rota, currently 1 in 10 weeks, with appointment of 4 additional consultants over the next 12 months.

  • Participate in innovative community integration models to provide cardiac care to local population.

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Role Requirements

You will be expected to undertake two general cardiology clinics in a full week. Weekly sessions for elective PCI will be available depending on the successful applicants areas of expertise. You will be expected to take part on Bickleigh ward rota which is currently 1 in 8. Additional 4 consultant appointments are being made over the next 12 months who will be part of these rotas.

1. Clinical Care:

Diagnose and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.

Perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, ECGs, and cardiac MRIs.

Provide outpatient and inpatient care, including consultations and follow-up appointments.

Lead and participate in ward rounds, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

2. Procedural Work:

Conduct interventional procedures such as angiography, angioplasty both in and elective and non-elective setting.

Ensure all procedures are performed to the highest standards of safety and quality.

3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, radiologists, and surgeons, to provide integrated care.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and treatment plans.

4. Teaching and Training:

Provide education and training to junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare staff.

Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and clinical governance initiatives.

5. Research and Development:

Engage in clinical research to advance the field of cardiology.

Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.

6. Management and Leadership:

Take on leadership roles within the department, contributing to service development and improvement.

Participate in the management of the cardiology department, including rota planning and resource allocation.

7. Patient Safety and Quality Improvement:

0800-0900 Thursday Echocardiography Meeting:

This weekly dedicated echocardiography meeting provides an educational forum for echocardiography with a teaching timetable including BSE curriculum topic teaching, guideline review, case discussion and a medium to support quality assurance. It is attended by the cardiology junior doctors and physiologists. The meeting is chaired by Dr Luisa Chicote-Hughes. The candidate is expected to participate in this meeting
