Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join University Hospitals Plymouth Maternity Service as a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW). You will be part of a team working with a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality and safe care to women and babies within the inpatient maternity services.
The successful candidate will be a competent individual, working as a member of the maternity team providing care to women and families throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period. The MSW will work under indirect supervision of a registered midwife and be guided by the midwife's expertise. The successful candidate will be a positive and professional individual who has excellent communication and IT skills and will be able to work effectively in a demanding and continually evolving environment. The successful candidate will be provided with training to support the role and obtain many additional skills.

Main duties of the job
The MSW will undertake a range of duties including: Personal care of women and babies, providing information and advice on self-care, infant care and initiating support with infant feeding, health promotion, clerical, educational and housekeeping duties all to ensure the smooth running of the maternity team. This job will require flexibility to provide a seven day service which will include working Bank Holidays, Long/Short days and long nights within the inpatient area. It is essential that you are proficient with IT skills to record care being given.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
