Respiratory / Sleep Physiologist

Job summary

The successful candidate will be currently working as a Respiratory Clinical Physiologist and have at least 2-3 years experience at this level. You should hold a BSc in Respiratory Clinical Physiology, Biological Sciences or an equivalent qualification. The possession of relevant professional qualifications (for example, ARTP part 1 and 2 or practitioner level examination) or working towards achieving these is highly desirable. You should be AHCS registered.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

1. To plan, undertake and perform simple, specialist, complex and highly complex diagnostic assessments in accordance with ARTP/BTS guidelines.

a) Spirometry, peak flow rates, flow/volume loops

b) Gas transfer

c) Static lung volumes

d) Reversibility of airways obstruction with bronchodilators

e) Field exercise tests (6MWT)

f) Overnight sleep apnoea screening

g) Arterial blood gas performance and analysis

h) Exhaled and nasal nitric oxide

i) Bronchial provocation tests for the diagnosis of asthma/ bronchial hyper-responsiveness (Mannitol, Exercise-induced asthma)

j) Respiratory muscle assessment

k) CPAP assessment, provision & follow ups

l) Hypoxic challenge

m) Pulmonary shunt assessments

n) Full cardio-pulmonary exercise tests (CPET)

o) Respiratory/ Multi channel sleep studies.

Training and support will be given to the right applicant if they are not fully competent in performing the diagnostic tests that will be part of their duties.
