Oncology Support Worker in Melanoma

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Oncology Melanoma team as a B4 Support worker. This is a 3.5 days a week fixed term for a year role, to work with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and wider oncology team to help support patients and their families through their cancer treatment, at diagnosis, during treatment and after.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

To signpost patients to appropriate support and assist with Holistic Needs Assessment, Health and

Wellbeing Clinics, co-ordinate appropriate investigations required and Making Every Contact Count,

ensuring the delivery of patient care is of the highest standard and those patients and their families

are treated with dignity and respect.

o To utilise Patent Management System/iSOFT/SCR and other systems/databases to track patient and upload relevant cancer data.

o To set up and maintain new databases of patients coming through the new pathway. To analyse data and to prepare reports for the Clinical teams to help develop the service

To support patients under the direction of the CNS on the wards across the hospital and in outpatient settings taking and uploading photos of skin cancer onto SEEEHR for surveillance purposes.

Provide general telephone advice, signposting patients/carers to other sources of support as appropriate

Identify indication of need or changes in need through telephone contact and respond appropriately
