We have an amazing opportunity for you to join the colposcopy and hysteroscopy team as a Training Nurse Colposcopist.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a training specialist nurse role, in an established and skilled team of nurse specialists and medical consultants. As a colposcopist you will provide diagnosis and treatment for women referred with abnormal smears, delivering care to the standards set out by the NHS cervical screening programme and the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP). A comprehensive training programme will be provided, with the successful candidate being fully supported to become an accredited colposcopist, registered with the BSCCP. The training is expected to last 12 to 24 months.

Main duties of the job
The Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy service is a busy, well-established, nurse led service which is delivered within gynaecology outpatients by a small team of specialists. It provides women with abnormal smears with diagnosis and treatment, delivers assessment of 2 week wait referrals for potential gynaecological cancers and sees women with dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Both services have been incredibly successful and expanded significantly over recent years, requiring recruitment of more dedicated practitioners. It is a busy service, but our work is both stimulating and rewarding. We operate a service Monday to Friday 8-6pm,
Assist the Nurse Consultant and team including colposcopy treatments and hysteroscopic advanced procedures.
To support the Nurse Consultant Lead for Colposcopy / Hysteroscopy and Advanced Nurse Practitioner and in the ongoing development of the hysteroscopy and colposcopy services, ensuring that each is delivered to a high standard and within statutory requirements.
To liaise with the health professionals within the Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy services and the Cervical Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) for University Hospitals Plymouth.

Undertake audit and research both independently and in collaboration with others to improve colposcopy and hysteroscopy services.
Deputise for the failsafe coordinator in the audit of KC65 quarterly submission of data to the Quality Assurance cervical screening team.
To act as an educational resource for other health professionals within the trust and the primary care settings.
Be responsible for own professional and clinical development, to maintain and advance professional knowledge and skills, complying with BSCCP, RCOG guidelines, protocols and standards of care and practice within Hysteroscopy.
Critically evaluate current empirical research and their implications and application to the management of specific pathologies.
Critique and analyse existing protocols, being mindful of best practice in order to facilitate appropriate treatments.
Complete all aspects of clinical practice to demonstrate safe ethical practice in the ability to diagnose & treat women referred to the colposcopy service.
Critically reflect on how critical decision-making skills in outpatient clinical situations have been utilised.
Critically analyse own management of colposcopy cases providing rationale for decision making & problem-solving skills used when managing women with complex pathologies.
Communicate effectively through a variety of presentation styles.
