Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Neurosurgery service and support the implementation of the regional Minor Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) pilot. The successful post holder will play a pivotal role in delivering a virtual MTBI follow-up service in order to demonstrate patient safety, improved patient experience as well as financial and operational efficacy of the pilot.

The successful candidate will be based either at Southmead Hospital (North Bristol NHS Trust) or at Derriford Hospital (University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust) and needs to be able to start the role with immediate effect. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months at 18.75 hours per week.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

Enhanced level practice describes a level that can only be delivered by registered professionals with statutory registration who have gained additional post-registration education and experiential learning in a relevant subject area. This level can be applied to the full range of registered professional careers. The enhanced level is differentiated from other levels by one's expertise in applying specific knowledge and skills to a designated area. This role will manage caseloads of patients, providing intervention as part of a designated pathway.

Registered professional working at an enhanced level are expected to be able to manage discrete activities in complex, challenging and changing situations and environments. They should also be confident to seek further guidance when they reach the boundaries of their competence.

This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice under supervision (direct and indirect) of the Clinical Supervisor and line management under the Matron within the service.

The post holder will act as a healthcare professional within the Southwest Neurosurgery Operational Delivery Network (SW Neurosurgery ODN), assisting in the remote management of patients with minor head injury, alongside the on-call neurosurgical services for NBT and UHP and assist in the care provision alongside the Matron and Clinical Supervisors if and when required
