Fluoroscopy IP Coordinator

Job summary

The Medical Imaging Service Line at Derriford Hospital and its peripheral sites provide diagnostic and treatment pathways for a wide spectrum of emergency and elective patients from across the South West through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound (US), Interventional Radiology (IR), Plain Film (PF), Nuclear Medicine and Fluoroscopy.

The role of this Fluoroscopic Coordinator is to facilitate an organised and efficient service for Fluoroscopy patients and act as a point of contact for all users of the Fluoroscopic Department during weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.

The postholder will be line managed by the bookings team but work with the guidance of the Consultant Radiologists and Fluoroscopy radiographers, the post holder's objective is to optimise patient flow through the Fluoroscopy rooms, always ensuring clinical priority and safety, and responding with agility to the changing needs of the service.

They will need exceptional concentration, organisational and communication skills and be able to multi task under prolonged period of pressure at times of operational challenge. This coordinator should be willing to assist other areas in Imaging where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Coordinate through put and flow for the fluoroscopy service

Communicate with Consultant Radiologists, Radiology registrars, Radiographers, Nurses, ICAs, porters and other staff groups

Work on their own initiative and seek guidance where they feel this is appropriate from other team members.

Field calls from service users

Liaise with Duty Floor Radiologist (DFR) around queries

Prioritise patients based upon length of wait and clinical urgency

Respond to requests from Service Line Management and Site Team to facilitate discharge or diagnostic dependent scans

The post holder will be required to work within Trust policies and procedures.

To be able to identify risks, raise concerns and report incidents according to Trust policy in an appropriate mannerto the Fluoroscopy, X ray and Imaging Management Team where appropriate.

To co-ordinate the appointments and patient flow through the fluoroscopy rooms.

To ensure the most effective use is made of Fluoroscopy resources and inpatient capacity is optimised.

To understand Fluoroscopy operator skills matrix to organise appropriate type of examination or procedure for the operator.

To engage with ward readiness arrangements.

To be familiar with patient preparation for Fluoroscopy examinations and procedures.

To be able to liaise with Nurses effectively in order to optimise any inpatient capacity for Fluoroscopy interventions.

To monitor closely inpatient flow and utilisation of Fluoroscopy capacity throughout the day and highlight to Fluoroscopy Team and Imaging Management team any delays.

To prioritise scans dependent on clinical urgency, patient waiting times and Fluoroscopy inpatient capacity.

To be able to use multiple computer programmes such as CRIS, SALUS, Synbiotix and other platforms as appropriate.

To communicate constantly changing situations to relevant parties in a clear and concise manner, via the Microsoft Teams, telephone, email and face to face.

To keep an up-to-the-minute record of daily scan lists to ensure accurate information is managed and relayed to relevant staff.

To help administer discharge dependent scan requests, maintain regular communication with relevant parties, and keep an accurate record of events.

To maintain a log of issues / actions on a daily basis.

To work flexibly to meet service requirements which includes seven day working. Nominally working hours are 0830-1700h on weekdays and 0830-1330h on weekends/bank holidays. These working times may change depending on service needs.
