Clean Driving Licence is essential

Principally, collection and delivery of mops between Derriford Hospital by van. The sorting and laundering of both clean and dirty mops on behalf of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

The Facilities Department has a wide remit within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, with overarching responsibility for a number of key frontline services including the provision of clean, laundered mop service. The cleanliness and upkeep of the machinery. The department works closely with business partners to ensure that these services run efficiently.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Work with the Ward Team, in partnership with the Hotel Services Supervisor, and Departmental supervision and management to contribute to the maintenance of a hygienic and clean environment for patients, staff and visitors to ensure the highest standards are met at all times.

1. The driving of all vehicles used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as required within the requirements of the Road Traffic Act and within the legal limits of the licence groups held.

2. The completion of daily checks and relevant documentation for any vehicle used in keeping with the Transport Department Policy. This is to include checking, and replenishing if necessary; fuel, oil, water, tyre pressures and all relevant fluid or oil levels. To ensure the tyres brakes, lights and steering operate in a safe and satisfactory manner daily before driving the vehicle on a public road.

3. Responsibility for the roadworthiness of any vehicle being used and the security, safety and stability of all loads carried.

4. Cleaning the vehicle inside and out on a regular, as needed, basis.

5. Reporting any accident, however minor, to Patient Service Managers and to complete all relevant documentation.

6. Reporting any defects on the vehicle to the Patient Service Managers.

7. When required answering the Department phones and, if necessary, taking messages and then dealing promptly, accurately and appropriately with these messages.

8. Keeping the area generally tidy.

9. The routine collection and delivery of all commodities as required.

10. The safe loading and unloading of the vehicles recognising the requirements of The Manual Handling Regulations. To maintain the security, safety and stability of all loads carried throughout the working day is a legal requirement and it remains the drivers responsibility. This must always be taken into consideration when the vehicle is loaded.

11. Compliance with all of the Policies and Procedures of the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

12. Completion of all necessary documentation as required in relation to the post held.

13. Any other duties as may be required for the efficient running of the Mop Laundry Service.
