Infant Feeding Support Worker (Tongue Tie Service)

This post offers an exciting and new opportunity to join University Hospitals Plymouth Maternity Service as a Band 3 Infant Feeding Support Worker to assist the multi-professional team in the provision of high-quality infant feeding and tongue tie service.

The post holder will provide an effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for pregnant people, women, their babies and their families. The post holder will provide this care within patients' homes, clinic and inpatient environments.

They will also provide support and education to Maternity Support Workers and other colleagues, from initial recruitment, during induction and on-going development. Be a role model in high standards of clinical practice and leadership; ensuring that maternity support workers also provide a high standard of practice which is based on current evidence, guidelines and policies. Assist in the implementation of new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services. You will also be required to have a visible presence in the clinical environment and provide one to one support and education for staff members working within maternity.

Main duties of the job

Supporting setting up of the new neonatal tongue tie service the candidate will provide an effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for women, their babies and their families. You will be providing support and education to members of the multi-disciplinary team. Implement new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services. Work with individual parent's, families and in group settings throughout the pregnancy and the postnatal period. The post holder will provide information about infant feeding and support to birthing parents, partners and their babies before and after the birth in a range of settings, inpatient facilities, home and clinics. The post holder will work with minimal supervision to undertake a range of tasks involving promoting and supporting responsive feeding in line with national and local guidelines and public health priorities. Working proactively using a partnership approach to promote health and contribute to tackling health inequalities within the level of competencies required for the post. The post holder will provide psychological and emotional care and support. The post holder will provide appropriate information related to infant feeding and may signpost to other organisations. They will provide health promotion and education either in a one to one or group format, including antenatal classes.
