Job summary
This is an opportunity for an individual to complete a 4-year apprenticeship in Carpentry skills and Maintenance. During this period the successful candidate will complete NVQ level 2 and 3 in Carpentry which will provide the basic theoretical knowledge which is important for any building tradesperson. Alongside this, you will work with the experienced healthcare Building team at the hospital who will guide and develop the specific practical skills and knowledge you will need to become a fully qualified Maintenance Carpenter.
Trainees covered by paragraph 2(iii), where periods of training last for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows:
(i)up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
(ii)(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;
(iii)(iii) more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
(iv)(iv) more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
On successful completion of all the necessary qualifications the candidate will become a fully qualified member of the team who carry out engineering maintenance work.
Main duties of the job

Assist higher skilled grades on all types of maintenance, new works and repairs where suitablyskilled and instructed. Following a period of training and assessment the apprentice will be required to carry out semiskilled duties, independently and without routine supervision, where directed by a qualifiedTradesperson. After a period of relevant training and with necessary supervision to carry out semi-skilled workof other trades.
