Job summary
To provide specialist IT Network engineering services for the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT) and IT supported organisations. Provide expert guidance to Networks Engineers, support the Network Infrastructure lead and Network Manager. Investigate a range of complex IM&T issues. Provide expert opinion on matters relating to network infrastructure, IT infrastructure strategy, and emerging network technologies. Follow the relevant policies, standards, and practices. Primarily remote working with some on site duties.
The role is part of the Network on-call rota.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
To be an Advanced Network Infrastructure Engineer in support of the Plymouth Health Community network infrastructure. Day to day duties include progressing of planned project work and troubleshooting of user-submitted Helpdesk tickets. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and represent the Trust when attending face-to-face and virtual meetings with suppliers and other stakeholders on a variety of topics relating to network infrastructure. They will offer expert guidance to the Network Engineers, Network Infrastructure Team Lead, Network Manager, and be willing to carry out their own research to fill knowledge gaps.

- In-depth proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of specialist networking technologies including IP addressing, Ethernet switching and network routing, both wired and wireless, across Local Area Network and Wide Area Network environments.
- In-depth proven knowledge of enterprise wireless networking. Demonstrable experience in network troubleshooting techniques using specialised tools such as the Fluke LAN Meter and proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of cabling technologies including structured and fibre optic cabling specifications.
- In-depth proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of specialist voice networking technologies including: IP Telephony, Analogue telephone systems Convergence
Desirable
- Awareness: up to date with the NHS Programme for IT and other national directives
