Job summary

An exciting opportunity offering a 12 month fixed term/secondment (with the possibility of becoming permanent) post for a HCPC-registered clinical/counselling psychologist to join the Major Trauma Team at University Hospitals Plymouth, the adult Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for Peninsula Trauma Network covering Devon & Cornwall.

As the Peninsula Trauma Centre, Derriford Hospital has a well-established team of Major Trauma Centre Clinical and Rehabilitation Coordinators (MTCC/MTRCs). The team are responsible for coordinating the care, rehabilitation, repatriation and transfer in of all major trauma patients while ensuring seamless case management for all MTC patients within the Trust.

The post-holder will provide a highly specialist and high quality Clinical Health Psychology service for adults who have undergone major trauma, within the Clinical Health Psychology department. Clinical duties will include the assessment and provision of psychological therapy, advice or consultation to patients and professionals within the Trust during the acute phase and onwards during the patients stay.

The post holders will need to be enthusiastic, dynamic, excellent communicators and will be required to work with multi-disciplinary teams across the organisation. There will be opportunities for involvement in supervision and teaching.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Major Trauma MDT at UHP.

To provide a highly specialised Psychology service to major trauma patients within the Trust.

1. To devise and provide individualised assessment and treatment of inpatients andoutpatients with multi-faceted problems.

2. To provide highly specialist advice and consultation on psychological problems, needsand care of Medical major trauma patients.

3. To provide specialist support and supervision to staff involved in the care of majortrauma patients that we work with

4. To meet the health needs, participate in, advise, and make proposals regarding servicedevelopment within Clinical Health Psychology especially with regard to Hospitalpatients

5. To apply Research and Development skills to: perform audit within the service; auditown clinical practice; and the supervision of undergraduate students, graduateassistants and doctoral trainees

6. To supervise clinical work of newly qualified staff, trainees and graduate psychologyassistants directly in order to administer psychological therapy and ensuring systemsare in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision thesestaff

Essential

  • Post qualification demonstrable experience of clinical work within a health care setting, with individuals who have an acute/long term medical condition
  • In depth demonstrable experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people across different care settings e.g. outpatient, community and inpatient
  • Post qualification demonstrable experience of working as a clinical psychologist, providing psychological consultation, and training to multiprofessional and multi-agency teams
  • Formal teaching/ presentation sessions to health and other professionals
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Demonstrable experience of providing professional/clinical supervision
  • Proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of safeguarding
