Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic occupational therapist to lead and develop the Occupational Therapy team on Kingfisher and Skylark rehabilitation wards at Mount Gould Hospital. This post is integral to the delivery of a high standard of therapeutic care and complex discharge planning with the MDT, to facilitate discharge and access to appropriate community services. There are options available for those wishing to work flexibly, either full or part time, and we are keen to discuss the opportunities we can offer.

The successful candidate must have experience at a senior level across the fields of acute medicine, healthcare of the elderly and neurosciences working in the NHS environment; be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of personal autonomy, clinical skill, leadership and knowledge of the national healthcare agenda that impacts on day-to-day life in health care of elderly department. You must have good inter-personal skills, work well in a multidisciplinary team environment and have the ability to lead a team in challenging times.'

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification***

Main duties of the job

You will be given opportunities to; develop both your clinical and managerial skills through CPD, staff supervision, mentoring and in-service training and work alongside specialist practitioners across the acute inpatient field. The successful candidate will work closely with the MGH inpatients physiotherapy team lead, supported by Head of Physiotherapy, Consultant Therapist Neurosurgery and Lead for Complex Rehabilitation and Therapies Service Line Cluster Manager.

Main duties include providing a high level of clinical leadership to general inpatients wards (Kingfisher and Skylark).

To provide clinical leadership to junior staff in the department and ensure governance agenda is delivered in line with trust structure.

To be responsible for providing a 7-day quality occupational therapy service for people admitted for intermediate care to the general inpatients wards (Kingfisher and Skylark). To promote person centred, positive risk taking assessments and interventions to support early discharge and flow through urgent care services.

Essential

  • Extensive demonstrable experience as an Occupational Therapist in the physical field
  • To have worked with a wide range of medical / respiratory / neuro / health care of the elderly patients with a broad / Falls & dementia care / management of complex caseloads
  • To have specialist proven knowledge & experience of a wide range of OT assessments and interventions relevant to these patient groups, demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning
  • To have good verbal and written English skills
  • Proven knowledge of a wide range of OT equipment and minor adaptations
  • Demonstrable experience in liaising with community services
  • Demonstrable experience in caseload management
  • Demonstrable experience of staff appraisal.
