Job summary
University Hospitals Plymouth wishes to appoint a full-time physicians associate working in the Microbiology Department. This is an exciting new opportunity that has arisen. This role will allow the Department to start to work towards a new and innovative staffing model. The successful candidate will work with the team of Consultants plus one substantive Clinical Scientist and one in training. The appointee will together with other members of the clinical team be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and effective clinical microbiology, mycology and virology service to the Trust, local GPs and other service use.

Main duties of the job
- Clinical liaison work with general and neurosurgical intensive care patients. Information gathering and collation. Ward rounds. Liaison with the laboratory and documentation.
- Follow-up of complex patients including those with S. aureus bacteraemia and other invasive infections: Ward based and remote follow-up. Close communication with ward-based clinical colleagues and the laboratory team. Ongoing patient management in collaboration with the ward team. Where appropriate MDT meeting attendance. Clear documentation. Development and maintenance of specialist knowledge.
- Antimicrobial stewardship, with a particular focus on antimicrobial de-escalation.
- Ensuring good team working within and between clinical departments and with the infection prevention and control and public health teams.
- Service quality and clinical governance: Audit, service evaluation, teaching and research. Engagement with the departmental CPD programme.

- - PG Dip / MSc / equivalent qualification in Physician Associate studies from a UK training programme
- Or, if trained outside of the UK, current and valid certification with the US National Commission on Certification for Physician Associates (NCCPA)
- - Registration with the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Registration Commission (PAMVRC)
