As the first post holder this is an exciting opportunity to lead the way within an organisation that recognises and values consultant practice; indeed, we have recently appointed an organisational Consultant Practice Lead.

Main duties of the job
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
The Consultant Midwife:
- Responsible for the strategic oversight of the delivery of services that identify and reduce health inequalities for maternity patients
- Conduct consultant midwife clinics for debriefing and request for birth outside of guidance, ensuring correct governance is followed
- Lead for research; supporting the research team in promoting and securing research studies within the department
- Support lead for screening and immunisation services
- Lead for health promotion, representing the department in trust wide and national forums.
- Lead for mental health
- Lead the ongoing implementation of the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle and ensure compliance is reported appropriately
- Conduct consultant midwife clinics for debriefing and request for birth outside of guidance, ensuring correct governance is followed
- Lead for public health initiatives inside and outside of the organisation in collaboration with external agencies
They will also empower clinical leaders of services, midwives, practice development midwives and professional midwifery advocates. The role will involve being an expert, autonomous practitioner of midwifery, a role model for midwives and a reference for obstetric colleagues.
