To support the team in demonstrating highly effective patient care.
To assist in the preparation of theatre prior to surgery and to carry out cleaning of designated areas within theatres.
To provide portering support and undertake the safe transportation of patients within REI Theatres and associated locations within UHPNT and surrounding external areas.
Be responsible for the day-to-day care, maintenance and decontamination of surgical instruments and other items, tracking these to and from their designated areas. To undertake the safe and hygienic movement of equipment, tools, gases, medication, specimens and other requested items within UHPNT and surrounding areas, whilst reporting/escalating any issues in line with current policies and procedures.
Undertake relevant training and development to ensure delivery of the highest levels of service, safely under Health and safety and COSHH regulations.
To ensure stock levels of consumables are maintained, whilst demonstrating stock rotation.
To provide excellent customer care and customer relations for all patients, visitors, general public and have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, some of whom may be unwell, confused, upset or angry.

Job responsibilities
- To take on the role of circulator, opening sterile instruments/consumables for surgical procedures, whilst supporting other members of the theatre team.
- To act as patients advocate in the capacity of escort nurse for General Anaesthetic patients whilst supporting the ODP/Anaesthetic practitioner.
- To work as part as a multidisciplinary team daily, understand own workload and undertake requests received by trust staff.
- To participate in an on-call service.
- To maintain clear and effective communication channels with team leaders, clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Check, transport and change medical gasses, (and their associated equipment), using suitable transportation to and from the appropriate storage facilities.
- To liaise with clinical/nonclinical staff with regards to specific patient interventions, ensuring patients are taken to the correct destination for investigation/treatment.
- Assist clinical staff, transfer teams and escorts when requested with regards to moving patients, whilst using correct manual handling techniques and suitable equipment, ensuring equipment is regularly cleaned and maintained in accordance with health and safety and infection control.
- To liaise with team members to ensure correct patient prioritisation processes are in place and adhered to.
- Ensure relevant and appropriate checks are undertaken at all times to ensure patients are correctly identified prior to any movement. Report any discrepancies immediately.
- Communicate, report or escalate any issues or risks that will compromise an effective service to to relevant people.
- Maintain cleanliness and carry out general housekeeping of relevant areas within the department, ensure areas are kept clear of waste and accessibility is upheld.
