Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design and development of the new South West region Imaging Training Academy. The purpose of the Academy Leads (one post from Medical and one for Clinical professions) is to provide south west regional leadership for the delivery of high quality, cross specialty, and multi-professional Imaging training, through leadership of the SWITA, and managing the core academy team.

This role will be integral to the development of the academy and will be responsible for providing leadership aligned to the aims of the academy. The key outputs from the role, supported by the Academy Programme Manager, and the NHSE SW Cancer & Diagnostics Programme Team will be:

  • increased training capacity across a region
  • provision of multi-professional training across a team
  • provision of flexible and high-quality training environments for the imaging workforce, including clinical radiology, diagnostic radiography and sonography, medical physicists, and imaging & mammography support workforce
  • Enabled immersive training in priority areas to support the rapid development of skills to support learning trajectory.
  • optimisation of available teaching faculty

This post is a 1.0 wte Band 8c and could be provided as a 'job share' between 2 individuals, through a secondment or fixed term contracts. The post is professionally and managerially accountable to the NHSE SW Regional Postgraduate Dean as Senior Responsible Officer for the SWITA.

  • To be an advocate and positive role model on behalf of SWITA, promoting leadership that inspires, motivates, and empowers all staff, and demonstrating the values of the NHS.
  • To work on behalf of SWITA, providing expert advice on imaging-specific matters
  • To work locally with key groups and stakeholders including NHSEI, to attend and host events across the south east region, to develop key liaisons and to ensure effective local engagement and responsiveness in line with the culture of NHSE.
  • To review how multi-professional healthcare teams interact and identify opportunities for different healthcare professions to work more effectively together through education and training.
  • To work with providers and others to support and capture innovation locally and ensure national and local conversations develop best practice.
  • To ensure delivery of the imaging-specific aspects of the NHSE mandate through local initiatives and programs.
