Job summary
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills to join the medicines supply team within the Pharmacy Department. To undertake duties supporting the supply of medicines to patients in hospital and on their discharge. We are looking for both full-time and part-time (30 hours) ATO's.
Interviews are likely to take place on w/c 8th January 2024.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
The post will involve duties that assist Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in the dispensing process both in the dispensary and at ward level and work within the distribution area to provide a ward top-up and medicines supply service. The ideal candidate will have a good general education (minimum entry requirement indicated on job specification) and demonstrable computer experience. If not already held, you will take part in the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy services (in-house training is provided).

- To receive paper, telephone and electronic requisitions and orders for a full range of medicines and pharmaceuticals from locations with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Livewell South West, Devon Partnership Trust and Cornwall Foundation Partnership Trust. Process the requisitions and orders using the Pharmacy stock management computer system.
- To undertake ward top-up services in accordance with standard operating procedures to include:
- Visiting designated ward/departments on specified days
- Check current ward stock to ensure it is in usable condition and within its expiry date
- Remove unwanted/unsuitable stock, in agreement with nursing staff
- Determine required stock to bring levels to a pre-agreed level
- Generate orders for the required amount of stock using the pharmacy stock management computer system
- Pick the required items from stock using computer generated picking list and using the automated dispensing system.
- Pack the stock in a safe manner in an appropriately labelled pharmacy ward box for the timely delivery to the ward.
- Liaise with the relevant clinical pharmacist and nursing staff to ensure ward stock list is kept up to date for the range and quantity of medicines routinely used by the location. Set up new stock lists for new locations.
- Use the pharmacy computer system to generate adhoc ward orders.
- To perform all duties in accordance with European Medicines Agency Good Distribution Practice Regulations.
