We are currently seeking a mix of motivated professional Radiographers to join our expanding Radiotherapy team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a flexible team based in the Pre-Treatment CT and Patient Support areas of the Radiotherapy Department.

The post holder will work in a senior capacity under the direct supervision of the CT team lead and / or CT and Patient Support Specialist Radiographer providing cover for both CT scanning and Radiotherapy Support Service.

The post holder will work to support the team leaders of the highly complex treatment units, CT planning unit, brachytherapy unit or pre-treatment liaison area. Support the team leader in the day-to-day management of their assigned pre-treatment or treatment work area, assisting in the organisation and management of the clinical workload.

The post holder will be required to undertake and manage all aspects of the workload as part of the team and be responsible, under their scope of practice, for the planning, treatment and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy.

Provide daily supervision and training to students and visitors

Additionally the post holder works closely with Radiotherapy Physicists, Technicians, Oncologists, Dieticians, Speech Therapists, Nurses, Admin staff ,other Radiographers and other professional groups to provide a thorough, efficient service encompassing all aspects of accurate Radiotherapy treatment delivery and patient care.

Will actively participate in clinical trials and in house research.

  • To provide safe and accurate specialist CT Scanning services allowing consistent and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionising radiation, while maintaining a high duty of care to all patients undergoing Pre -Treatment appointments and procedures
  • To undertake and, in the absence of a Band 7, lead on all CT scanning tasks as a senior team member team including Cannulation, contrast delivery, 4DCT, breath-hold techniques, palliative Eclipse planning and any future developments
  • Ensure compliance with all safe working practices under IR(ME)R 2017 AND IRR 2017
  • Ensure referral requests for Radiotherapy are completed and valid
  • To demonstrate effective patient management and skills encompassing all patients needs, using specialist knowledge of Pre-Treatment procedures
  • To undertake, patient consultations for preparing for CT scans & treatment and start of treatment reviews
  • To Maintain knowledge of requirements and limitations of the treatment delivery service to allow optimal patient positioning
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve complex treatment and planning issues with problem solving skills and effective autonomous decision-making.
  • Compute and check specialised calculations and complex planning data relating to patients treatment delivery
  • To communicate effectively with Oncology Consultants & Registrars regarding highly complex planning or treatment information to ensure safe and accurate delivery of treatment in accordance with trust and national legislation
  • High level of developed skill required enabling manipulation and positioning of the patient to achieve a high degree of precision of patient setup
