Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Performance Information Team who are seeking to appoint a Senior Data Solutions Developer to take a leading role in the development and maintenance of the Corporate Data Warehouse for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job include:

  • Develop, support & administer SQL Server databases which provide the reporting platform for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
  • A member of a team that will transform the existing Data Warehouse as the organisation seeks to increase data maturity on its journey moving to cloud hosting as part of a three-year Digital Data Strategy.
  • Provide support for Business as Usual (BAU), including daily process checks and the timely delivery of regular submission/reporting requirements.
  • Provide best practice guidance and advice to inform the Trust's Data & Analytics Strategy on data transformation, reporting and related best of breed technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide training and support to users of the Data Warehouse.

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Data Warehousing / Data & Server Management

  • Developing and maintaining data warehouse and data lake solutions using SQL, ETL, and cloud technologies.
  • To lead in the design and development of Data Marts which populate the Trusts federated Corporate Data Warehouse, providing a Single Source of the Fact.
  • Oversee BAU processes, identifying opportunities for process optimization, and setting performance benchmarks.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into data warehousing solutions.
  • To provide Data Quality assurance, for all data flows through the Corporate Data Warehouse, through regular and ad-hoc validation and audit.
  • To ensure that all developments and changes are fully documented, and auditable and change control policies are adhered to.
  • To advise on and lead in the development of robust processes across the Information & Data Solutions Teams in line with audit requirements.
  • To liaise with external agencies, clinical users, & trust staff as required to support the development of the service to meet the needs of its users.
  • To define & comply to standards in respect of database administration, ETL and data modelling, incorporating full documentation to support change control mechanisms and audit requirements.

  • To perform regular analysis of the Corporate Data Warehouse to ensure efficiency through effective data transformation & indexing.
  • To develop new methods for data transformation using the latest technology and methodologies.
  • To manage the processes which ensure that all statutory dataset requirements and datasets to support statutory reporting requirements are met e.g. SUS/HES & SDCS.
  • To develop PBR datasets for reporting via the Trusts Performance Information Team.
  • To acquire and maintain an expert knowledge of the database structures within the SQL Server (& other RDBMS) systems in use within the Trust.
