Job summary
Children's Theatres currently has 3 Theatres, day of surgery admissions, a recovery /discharge area, and preoperative assessment. We are situated on level 2 within Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. Specialities covered within Children's Theatres include Urology, ENT, Plastics, Maxillo-facial, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, community dental, Ophthalmology, etc. A mixture of day case, in-patient, elective and emergency work is undertaken within the unit.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our fantastic theatre team. The successful applicant must show a commitment to high quality patient care and excellent team work along with a genuine interest in the care of patients undergoing invasive procedures. It will also be required to work in partnership with other teams within the Theatre Central cluster, supporting staff, students, patients and relatives.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification***
Main duties of the job
Providing high quality care to patients and families
Reporting and documenting all relevant patient needs, communicating changes to other health professionals in the MDT
Act as Practitioner in charge, in the absence of the Team Leader
Commitment to evidence-based practise and clinical excellence
To engage with patients and their carers, explaining procedures and treatments to gain co-operation
Assist with projects to enhance patient care, including audit, risk management and infection control
Assists in other clinical areas and speciality theatres if the clinical situation demands
To develop and achieve objectives identified through appraisal of job role
Report untoward incidents, such as clinical emergencies or drug errors, as detailed in Trust policies
Demonstrating compliance with Health and Safety regulations/procedures within the Trust
Contributing towards maintaining the set standard of clinical practise. Participating in audit and quality monitoring
Managing the clinical risk, reporting issues to appropriate senior staff
Efficient and effective use of available resources
Maintain active NMC/HPC registration
Maintain professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in training activities and support staff development and training.
