Job summary

We are looking to recruit someone to join and support our IT Project Support team. The successful candidate will use their skills, experience and subject matter expertise to implement, deliver and review projects after implementation against stated benefits. Projects are undertaken in a structured manner in accordance with Pathology Project Management procedures, standards and Prince 2 methodology and cover a wide range of disciplines including but not restricted to: Clinical systems; Business systems; Infrastructure, and Telecommunications.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

The NHS has embarked upon an ambitious modernisation programme with a key objective to improve its service to patients. This programme is underpinned by Trust wide Information Technology projects including within Pathology.

The Trust's commitment to National IT initiatives includes the implementation of a number of interim and long-term Pathology solutions. It is necessary to introduce new or expand existing Pathology solutions/systems into complex clinical environments which often span multiple organisational boundaries within the Trust.

Provide comprehensive IT support to the departmental Operations Managers for a range of IT projects.

Support Pathology Management and departmental Operations Managers in the delivery of the Pathology Strategy.

Job responsibilities

  • Initiate projects as directed by the Pathology IT Manager or departmental operations manager and assess them for feasibility
  • Identify, analyse and document the project requirements with the clients and undertake an impact analysis to feed into service changes required after project delivery.
  • Provide managerial and project support to the Pathology Management and departmental Operations Managers
  • Compile and distribute the agenda for relevant project meetings, to take and distribute minutes at these meetings.
  • To liaise with other departments and parts of the organisation, following up information and gathering data as needed.
  • To produce high-quality word-processed letters, reports and other documents as required.
  • Liaise with Project Managers and Financial Accountants to maintain a record of all capital expenditure.
  • Identify, in conjunction with customers, the benefits to be realised by meeting the project requirements and the key success factors to be used to measure the project.
  • Establish, manage and communicate project plans ensuring all stakeholders understand deliverables and progress.
  • Manage a number of concurrent projects or act as stage manager for larger projects, as assigned by the Pathology IT Manager or departmental Operations Manager, in a variety of customer areas across different disciplines, ensuring effective and regular communication at all levels with all interested parties
  • Meet defined project management standards as defined by Pathology IT Manager or departmental Operations Managers and work with PMO to ensure that these standards are met.
  • Maintain project plans and documentation ensuring that information that feeds into PMO reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Co-ordinate and manage internal and external parties to ensure their effective involvement in change management, delivery and ongoing service, according to policy of the customer organisations.
