Job summary

This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to support our newly registered nursing and AHP staff with preceptorship.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about giving a compassionate and structured period of support to transition our newly registered staff from student to confident staff member. Your role will include classroom based activities that reflect real life experience and you will work closely with colleagues across the organisation. This is vital to enable our clinicians to develop confidence and competence in their new role as autonomous practitioners.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification***

***Available as a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity (with the possibility of becoming permanent). (With current line manager's agreement). ***

Job description

Job responsibilities

To support and lead the Trust Preceptorship programme for newly registered staff, return to practice, international staff and other practitioners who require the programme

Work collaboratively with HR, Heads of Nursing/Matrons and other senior clinical staff to plan, co-ordinate and review Preceptorship development across the Trust.

Work with ward/department managers and HR to support and give advice on performance and competency issues within the preceptorship programme.

Facilitate the development and assessment of clinical competencies, through ward managers, sisters and clinical educators within clinical teams.

Ensure accurate documentation is maintained and passed onto managers with regards to the completion of clinical competencies, clinical skills training and any other learning activities completed through the Preceptorship Programme.

To advise, develop and ensure quality of learning opportunities within a multi-professional framework in order that the service users receive a high standard of care.

Liaise with the Clinical Placement Team and HEIs in relation to under-graduate curriculum and skills development identifying those skills and competencies which need to be developed through Preceptorship.

Ensure the effective promotion of clinical supervision in order that the workforce works within parameters of legislation, policies and procedures.

Facilitate assessment, evaluation and re-design of the preceptorship programme to ensure programme content and clinical competencies are current and reflect the needs of the organisation and clinical practice.

Liaise with other Trust Educational Leads across the Southwest Peninsula re: Preceptorship programmes.

Monitor, audit and evaluate the preceptorship programme to ensure compliance with Health Education England (HEE) Preceptorship Standards and Performance Management outcomes.

Act as a resource to facilitate the practitioners professional development including development of attitudes, behaviours that demonstrate and uphold professional values and beliefs in line with professional regulatory body requirements.

Collate intelligence/Data to formulate reports of preceptorship recruitment, retention and attrition.

Promote and develop innovative approaches to develop preceptors within clinical practice.

Provide preceptor training to support the preceptess across the organisation and individual clinical environments.

Support other clinical programmes across the Department of Professional Healthcare Education
