Job summary

Due to promotion within the team, a rare opportunity has presented for a band 2 HCA to join our friendly and highly supportive Interventional Radiology team. We are seeking a motivated and resilient, patient focused healthcare assistant who is flexible and adaptable to change. You will become a key member of the multi-disciplinary team with a strong focus on patient care and safety.

This unique role provides the scope to gain a multitude of skills and knowledge across all modalities of the imaging department, including IR, fluoroscopy and CT. This includes monitoring patients and escalating concerns, and assisting with a vast variety of treatments and procedures. You will act as a positive role model to others. The successful candidates will need to be flexible and able to work a variety of shift patterns including day shifts, late shifts and weekends. Due to the life and limb saving nature of some of our procedures we operate an on call rota which our HCAs will be a part of in the future.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the preparation of Interventional Rooms prior to procedures and to carry out cleaning of designated areas within the procedure rooms as directed.
  • Recognise and meet the specific needs of patients undergoing surgery/recovery.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Implement care packages for patients undergoing general and local anaesthesia prior to surgery, psychological and emotional support during their operation and prior to discharge back to the ward or day case unit.
  • Perform clinical observations on patients under the supervision of senior staff, being able to recognise, record and report changes in patients' condition and relevant observations to senior staff.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene at all times
  • Participate in the ordering of and maintenance of equipment used in theatres and be able to use it under supervision.
  • Assist the Registered Practitioner with interventions taking place in CT and Ultrasound
  • Become competent in assisting consultants and radiographers with a variety of procedures in the departments fluoroscopy rooms
  • Actively participate in departmental based continuing education, assisting in mentoring and facilitating junior support workers/HCA's and providing support for students, visitors and new members of the team.

Interventional Radiology is a positive and progressive environment consisting of a multi-disciplinary team of Nurses, ODPs, Radiographers and Doctors. No two days are the same in and we treat a wide variety of patients from all specialities across the hospital, including inpatients, outpatients and day cases

We have a supportive team of Band 6 nurses who each have a designated team they are responsible for. In line with the Trusts People Plan we have daily huddles where all staff members are encouraged to speak up, and regular improvement huddles where any member of the team can suggest a new idea and this is discuss and taken forward.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
