Job summary

Candidates are invited to apply for the Rhinology Fellow position with the aim to start in November 2023. This is a fixed term post for 12 months, subject to a satisfactory assessment at 6 months from the start of the post.

This post is suitable for post certificate of completion of training (CCT) candidates or equivalent, Senior Specialty Registrars or equivalent grades seeking to sub-specialise in Rhinology. The post is approved by the SAC for training for Specialist Registrars, but does not attract a national number. The post holder will work as part of a team of 7 middle grade doctors and will participate in the second on call rota. The post holder will work mainly with Professor Hisham Khalil, Mr Marios Stavrakas (Consultant Rhinologists and Anterior Skull Base Surgeons) and Mr Samiul Muquit (Consultant Neurosurgeon and Anterior Skull Base Surgeon). Candidates should have at least 4 years of ENT training at registrar level or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The post offers the successful candidate experience in advanced endoscopic sinonasal surgery techniques, endoscopic anterior skull base surgery and advanced septorhinoplasty techniques. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to train with a 'state of the art' image guidance system. The post holder will be expected to participate in ongoing Rhinology research projects in the department and where appropriate in the Peninsula Medical School. The provisional timetable of the post holder is highlighted in the job description. However, this is liable to change in the future. Duties will include running four outpatient clinics per week and assist with 4 operating sessions per week.

The curriculum is based around enquiry-based learning and has been highly ranked by our graduates in how they felt prepared for Foundation practice. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching workload of the department and will be eligible for an honorary contract with the University of Plymouth. Your role will include important opportunities to be involved in the education of Medical Physician Associates and Diagnostic Radiography students, in both the hospital environment and the Peninsula Medical School, and help train the healthcare professionals of the future.

The post is a fixed term contract, for a period of twelve months, subject to a satisfactory assessment at 6 months from the start of the post. The Terms and Conditions of Employment (including those related to leave and sick pay) are in accordance with the nationally agreed Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) and General Whitley Council Conditions of Service currently in force and as amended from time to time. The post can be terminated by the Trust or the post holder giving three months notice.

Appointments are superannuable unless you opt out of the scheme or are ineligible to join, and your remuneration will be subject to declaration of superannuable contributions in accordance with the National Health Services Superannuation Scheme.
