Job summary
The ENNP provides a key role in the ongoing care of the late preterm and term infant as part of the multidisciplinary team, reporting to the ANNP.
The successful candidate will be trained in clinical practical skills including New-born Infant Physical Examination (NIPE), history taking and the role of first responder to new-born resuscitation, within the maternity and neonatal departments.
The ENNP supports nursing and medical staff in providing neonatal care pathways.
Main duties of the job
An experienced neonatal nurse who utilises enhanced clinical skills and theoretical knowledge to provide care to neonates and their families.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

The post holder will be based within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and work as member of the multidisciplinary team having identified sessions providing enhanced clinical care. They will develop ways to support nursing and medical staff in providing neonatal care pathways.
- Delegated Clinical Responsibilities
- Demonstrate an enhanced level of knowledge and clinical nursing practice by delivering evidenced based care
- Undertake enhanced clinical practice skills in the care of neonates including :
- New-born infant physical examination (NIPE)
- Venepuncture & interpretation of blood results
- Venous cannulation
- Arterial blood gas sampling and analysis of results
- Removal of central lines
- Insertion/removal of CFAM leads
- Attend deliveries >34 week gestation
- Respond to emergency neonatal bleep
- Identify common pathological findings on X-ray
- Neonatal immunisations
- Undertake assessment of the neonate to include medical and social history and physical examination, reporting findings to the medical team
- Provide information and specialist results to assist the medical team in the assessment and diagnostic process
- Maintain accurate clinical records and new-born databases
- Competent in the use of relevant medical devices and for the correct use of specialist equipment
- Maintain nurse transport skill set as appropriate
- Contribute to the development, implementation and compliance of local policies and guidelines
- Support health education for families
- Promote a positive and professional working environment
