Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced individual to take on the management of the award-winning Software Development Team within the Digital & Innovation Services (D&I) department of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP).

UHP has a long and successful history of developing major, bespoke, and highly complex clinical and business software which are uniquely aligned to the needs of the Trust in support of patient care and organisational improvements.

The role of Software Development Team Manager forms part of the development arm of the department (Enterprise Solutions Architect, Solutions Architects, Integration, Testing & QA), and key organisational stakeholders to understand, design, develop and implement effective, safe and relevant Trust-wide electronic patient record and care software through management and leadership of the Software Development Teams. They achieve this through excellent leadership and management of a team of 8 staff, developing an in-depth knowledge not only of IM&T systems but of patient pathways and clinical need, always being mindful of regional and national strategy.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

This role requires extensive experience in the technical skills and frameworks of enterprise-class software development whilst also having strong team management, leadership, and people skills where you will:

  • Co-ordinate the team to develop, deploy and support fantastic bespoke business and clinical software solutions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the digital development methods and tools used by the team.
  • Provide expert advice and direction on development, database systems and systems analysis to other members of the department.

You'll need extensive knowledge and experience of the full software development lifecycle, the design, development, management and maintenance of information systems and a wealth of experience in C#, .NET Framework, JavaScript frameworks and associated technologies and methodologies.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, leader and motivator, with high standards that you inspire in others. You will take accountability for your team's work and be comfortable making changes and leading them in new directions as necessary.
